Special Issue on 30 Years of Elephant Conservation in India

The Journal of Wildlife Science (JWLS) is proud to announce a Special Issue commemorating 30 years of elephant conservation in India since the launch of Project Elephant in 1992. Over the past three decades, this initiative has declared 33 elephant reserves and developed comprehensive monitoring efforts, which recorded approximately 30,000 individuals in 2017. India remains home to more than 60% of the global Asiatic elephant (Elephas maximus) population, underlining its pivotal role in conserving this iconic species.

This Special Issue aims to consolidate the wealth of research conducted during the past three decades, drawing scientific insights to inform the future management and conservation of elephants under Project Elephant. Researchers, conservationists, and policy-makers are encouraged to contribute their work and help shape the next chapter of elephant conservation in India.
