The Journal of Wildlife Science (JWLS) is dedicated to advancing wildlife science and conservation through rigorous, evidence-based research across taxa and ecosystems. The journal operates on a diamond open-access model, meaning neither authors nor readers incur fees for accessing or publishing in JWLS. In a departure from the traditional pay-to-publish or pay-to-read models, our mission is to foster open and free access to high-quality, peer-reviewed interdisciplinary research in wildlife science, conservation, and management. We provide an inclusive, author-friendly platform welcoming original articles, reviews, commentaries, policy briefs, and novel paper types like Methods Papers, Natural History Notes, and Academic Practices in Wildlife Science. Our unique peer review approach emphasises constructive mentorship between authors and reviewers to elevate quality while fostering a collaborative research community.
JWLS is a quarterly publication with an online-first feature (publishing online as soon as the article is accepted). Therefore, the authors can submit their latest findings, insights, and perspectives for publishing in JWLS at any time.
Journal of Wildlife Science is the first Diamond open-access dedicated journal dealing with wildlife science and conservation issues.
We provide a place for research based on solid facts as an author-friendly journal. This indicates that our goal is to review every research article and consider reasons to publish rather than reject.
We welcome submissions across taxa, and original research articles, reviews, commentaries, and policy briefs related to wildlife ecology and conservation. The journal also offers novel categories of papers with ‘Nature Notes’ and ‘Academic Practices’ followed in wildlife conservation.
Reasons to publish:
Instead of using arbitrary criteria like “novelty” or “impact,” we simply evaluate the caliber and rigor of your research. There is always value if the science is sound. To assist you in publishing your work, we work together.
The journal will consider papers that might not find a home in ‘traditional’ journals, such as confirmatory/negative results and descriptive natural history observations.
The ideology of the Journal
Our journal’s guiding principle is “Author friendly”. As long as they are not demonstrably false (or, you know, crazy), we aspire to provide a forum for authors to share their evidence-based opinions, as long as they are not factually incorrect. Such an approach of “Author friendly” encourages authors to disagree with reviewers, but we expect them to acknowledge and address disagreements in the manuscripts.
The majority of the journals “reject without review”. However, our journal’s policy is to publish articles if they are accepted by the reviewers. There are no page limits with Diamond Open Access and thus, we prefer to review all submitted articles. The editors of the Journal of Wildlife Science will quickly decide whether to accept, reject, or ask for amendments based on the initial peer reviews.
